STUDY OF CONVENTIONAL AND EVOLUTIONARY DIGITAL FILTER DESIGN Ramanpreet Kaur1 and Simarpreet Kaur2 1 Department of ECE, CEC Landran, Mohali, Punjab, India, E-mail: [email protected]. 2 Department of ECE, BBSBEC Fetehgarh Sahib, Punjab, India, E-mail: [email protected] Digital Filter design is an emerging area of research in current technological era. Various techniques have been available and explored for design purposes. A previous study shows that digital filter design can be achieved using neural network approach by considering Continuous Hopfield Network model. Another approach using ANN considers training of multilayer perceptron with various sets of sinusoids. Genetic algorithm approach and linear programming approach have also been considered for digital filter design. This paper covers the basic requirements of digital filter design and a study of conventional and evolutionary designs like genetic algorithm, etc is also presented. It also includes the limits of conventional approach for designing. A design example is also studied for elliptical filter and its magnitude and phase response is studied.
